How to check your FASTag balance

  1. Issuer bank app or portal. Your balance lives with the bank that issued the tag (ICICI, HDFC, SBI, Paytm Payments Bank, etc.). Log in to their FASTag app or portal to see the balance and statement.
  2. My FASTag app. NPCI's official "My FASTag" app (Android/iOS) can show balance for many issuer banks and lets you recharge via UPI.
  3. Missed-call service. If your mobile number is registered, several issuer banks offer a missed-call or SMS balance service — check your bank's FASTag page for the number.

How to check blacklist status

  1. Open the NPCI NETC status page using the button above.
  2. Enter your vehicle registration number (or tag ID) and the captcha.
  3. Read the result. "Active" means the tag will work at toll plazas; "Blacklist / Low balance" means it will be rejected at the boom barrier until you recharge or resolve the issue.

How the NETC system works

FASTag uses RFID stickers linked to a prepaid wallet or bank account. When your vehicle passes a toll lane, the plaza reads the tag, checks it against NPCI's National Electronic Toll Collection (NETC) blacklist, and debits the toll from your issuer bank in seconds. A tag is blacklisted when the balance is below the minimum threshold, KYC is incomplete, or the bank has flagged the account — not only when the balance is zero.

Common problems and fixes

ProblemFix
Tag blacklisted despite rechargeWait 15–30 minutes after recharging — issuer banks sync with NPCI in batches. If it persists, contact the issuer.
Double deduction at a plazaRaise a dispute with your issuer bank with the transaction details; NETC rules require time-bound reversal for valid claims.
Tag not reading at the boomEnsure the sticker is on the windscreen (not the dashboard) and not covered by tinted film. A damaged tag must be replaced by the issuer.
Vehicle sold or tag transferFASTags are non-transferable. Close the old tag with the issuer and buy a new one for the new vehicle/owner.
KYC-limit blocked walletComplete full KYC with your issuer to raise the wallet limit and unblock recharges.

Frequently asked questions

Is FASTag mandatory?

Yes — FASTag is mandatory for all four-wheelers and larger vehicles on National Highway toll plazas. Vehicles without a valid tag are charged double the toll in the cash lane.

Can one FASTag be used on two vehicles?

No. Each tag is linked to one vehicle's registration number and class. Using it on another vehicle can get the tag blacklisted.

What is the minimum balance requirement?

It varies by issuer and vehicle class. Cars typically need no security deposit with newer tags, but issuers may blacklist a tag when the balance falls below the toll amount for your vehicle class.
