Driving Licence Status
Track your driving licence or learner licence application on the Ministry of Road Transport's Parivahan Sarathi portal.
Official tracking portal. DL application status can only be checked on Parivahan Sarathi:
How to check your DL status
- Find your application number. It is printed on the acknowledgement slip from your RTO visit and sent by SMS when you applied online.
- Open Sarathi and pick your state. All licence services are organised state-wise, so select the state where you applied.
- Go to Application Status. In the menu choose "Apply Online → Application Status", then enter your application number, date of birth and the captcha.
- Read the stage list. Sarathi shows a checklist of stages with completed ones ticked — see the table below.
Common stages explained
| Stage | What it means |
|---|---|
| Application submitted / fee paid | Your form and payment are received by the RTO. |
| LL test scheduled / passed | Your learner licence test slot is booked, or you have cleared it and the LL is issued. |
| DL test scheduled | Your driving skills test appointment at the RTO track is booked. |
| DL test passed, approval pending | You cleared the test; an RTO officer's digital approval is in queue. |
| Licence printed / dispatched | Your card is printed and posted to your registered address by Speed Post. |
Typical timelines
A learner licence with online test (in states that allow it) can be issued the same day. After passing the driving test, the physical DL card usually arrives within 2–4 weeks depending on the state's card vendor and postal speed. You can use the DigiLocker or mParivahan app to carry a legally valid digital DL as soon as it is approved.
Frequently asked questions
Can I check DL status without an application number?
For a new application you need the application number. If you already hold a licence, you can look it up under "Others → DL Search" using your DL number and date of birth.
My DL shows approved but hasn't arrived. What should I do?
Check the dispatch details in the status page and track the consignment on India Post. If it is not dispatched after 30 days, contact your RTO with the application number — some states let you raise a grievance directly on Parivahan.
Is the digital DL in DigiLocker legally valid?
Yes. Under the Motor Vehicles rules, licences presented via DigiLocker or mParivahan are deemed legally recognised at par with the physical card.
